To retaliate means to hurt someone in return for hurting us.
It is neither wise nor good to retaliate when someone has hurt us.
When we retaliate, we might injure the other person, and this can put us and our families in some trouble. We would most likely be required to bear the cost of treating the injured person, and it would not matter that they had the first go at hurting us.
Retaliation can lead to fights which can get us injured in very damaging ways. These fights can get out of hand to cause considerable violence which can lead to the destruction of things and put us in significant trouble.
Therefore, it is not wise to retaliate when we are hurt by someone: the wise course of action is to report to someone in authority or our parents when someone bullies or intentionally hurts us.

Bullying is when a person or group of people pick on somebody else to intentionally hurt and annoy them.
It is wrong and unfair to bully other people because of the pain it causes - both physically and emotionally.
Before we do anything to someone, we should ask ourselves how we would feel if we were in the other person's shoes. We must never do to other people what we would not like another person to do to us. We should always do things to other people which we would enjoy being done to us.
